A few BBC Radio 3 broadcasts to listen out for this month including ‘The Imagined Forest’ performed by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under Mark Wigglesworth, ‘Tenebrae Factae Sunt’ sung by the BBC Singers under Will Dawes, and ‘Whirl Up, Sea—‘ for solo cello performed by Theo Bently Curtin.

The Apollo Saxophone Quartet presented their latest series of commissions from some of today’s most exciting and innovative composers in two concerts at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, including the world premiere of Grace-Evangeline Mason’s In the Fragrant Air.

On September 6th, last week, the Philharmonia Orchestra under John Axelrod brought ‘The Imagined Forest’ to the stage of the world-renowned Teatro alla Scala, Milan, in a programme with Grieg and Rimsky-Korsakov as part of MiTo SettembreMusica.

Saturday night saw the premiere of ‘In Her Own Valley’, a cantata based on the life and principles of Hannah Lightbody, an activist during the Industrial Revolution, with words written by librettist, Lila Palmer. The work was performed by the combined Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Children’s and Youth Choirs under conductor, Simon Emery.

Three recent Spring/Summer premieres including the world premieres in London of ‘In the Garden of a Museum’ for solo horn, ‘Whirl Up, Sea —’ for solo ‘cello, and the US Premiere of ‘Blinding, Burning, Lovely’ for soprano and chamber ensemble at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival.

Ten upcoming 2022/23 performance dates of ‘The Imagined Forest’ have recently been announced, including Italian, German, Finnish, and US premieres by the Philharmonia Orchestra, Magdeburgische Philharmonie, Lahti Sinfonia, and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Last Sunday saw the premiere of ‘Mahler’s Letters’ performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir under conductor Ellie Slorach, in a concert programme alongside Mahler’s 5th Symphony under Vasily Petrenko.

Commissioned to mark 10 years of the Northern Irish International Organ Competition (NIIOC), ‘Where the Birds Sing’ was premiered on Monday in two concerts by Richard Gowers at Southwark Cathedral, firstly in his solo recital, followed by the gala recital in the evening. The piece will receive a further performance by Richard at Belfast Cathedral on April 6th.

The 24th March 2022 saw the Norwegian Premiere of ‘The Imagined Forest’ by the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra under conductor, Leo Hussain at the Oslo Opera House.

Inspired by Jeanne Demessieux’s classic 12 Chorale Preludes on Gregorian Chant Themes, Gregoriana is a brand new solo organ anthology commissioned and curated by Anna Lapwood. The anthology consists of 12 new works written by 12 female composers, including Light, Revealing by Grace-Evangeline Mason based on Lumen ad revelationem gentium.

Thursday night saw the Liverpool premiere of ‘The Imagined Forest’ in a concert entitled ‘Musical Landscapes’ after it was performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic at the BBC Proms back in September under Domingo Hindoyan.

Each year the BBC Music Magazine commissions a brand new Christmas carol for their readers, and Grace is really pleased to have written this year's carol! Titled 'A Winter Carol', this carol is for you to sing in your choir or just with friends and family at home! The carol is available in this year's Christmas edition of the magazine and it is also free to download on their website over the next month.

Grace is deeply honoured to have been made an Associate (ARNCM) of her alma mater, the Royal Northern College of Music.

Autumn 2021 saw the exciting premiere of four new works; ‘The Imagined Forest’ for orchestra, ‘The Butterfly and the Stone’ for flute and piano duo, ‘The Safe-Kept Memory’ for concert band, and ‘To Breathe Now’ for orchestra.

Sunday night saw the premiere of Mason’s new orchestral work at The BBC Proms to critical acclaim. ‘The Imagined Forest’ was co-commissioned with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic for performance under their new chief conductor, Domingo Hindoyan to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Royal Albert Hall.

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s new 2021/22 programme has just been announced, which is the first season with Domingo Hindoyan at the helm as Chief Conductor, including exciting performances of four of Mason’s works such as world premieres of newly commissioned works ‘Mahler’s Letters’ and ‘In Her Own Valley’, as well as further performances of ‘Into The Abyss, I Throw Roses’ and ‘The Imagined Forest.’
